Lyfe was born in Toledo, Ohio, the United States in a working-class family. He lost his father at a very young age. In their teenage, Lyfe began to perform with a group called “The Dotsons”. This group consisted of himself, his brother and his two cousins. At the beginning of the ’90s, this band disbanded. At such young age(14), he fell into legal trouble and was sent to prison.

Career
In 2002, after serving ten years in prison, Lyfe returned to his musical career. Just after two days of his release from the prison, Lyfe recorded a four-song demo CD. After one month he performed at the Apollo. Lyfe then moved to New York City where he pursued a major label deal. In August 2004, the popular American label Columbia Records provided him with a contract and released his debut, Lyfe 268-192.
In 2006, Lyfe released a more hip-hop oriented follow-up The Phoenix with Three Mafia and Young Buck making guest appearances. He then released many more albums such as – Sooner or Later, Lucid, Tree of Lyfe, and 777.

Lyfe was engaged to Joy Bounds and has two sons Phoenix and Elijah from her. The couple then separated in 2008 after a serious argument. His third son Lyfe was born with a woman named Marquita and Knoah with an Indian woman Mendoza. Two more children of Lyfe were born in 2018, whose names and identity along with their mother’s identity has not been revealed publicly.
After a serious argument with Joy Bounds, Lyfe followed her to her family house in Smyrna, Georgi where he destroyed the door, fired gunshots and misbehaved. In September 2010, Lyfe was sentenced to three and a half years imprisonment. On February 2, 2016, he married a german model Gwendolyn Scharkowski and the two welcomed a son. Scharkowski however filed for a divorce just next month (March 15, 2016) after her marriage.
